Maillist

A maillist is an automated system that allows people to send email to one address where the message is then copied and sent to all of the other subscribers to the maillist. Typically a maillist can be configured so that only one person or a defined group can actually send to the list. Most systems will also prevent any emails from being published to the list except for the address of the list itself. ACSI Hosting uses the opensource maillist software named mailman.Example:

  1. If your websites sales things, you could provide a maillist to your customers to inform them of monthly specials.
  2. If your website is about your highschool football team, you could have a maillist that let everyone on the list send email to the list for discussing the team.
  3. If you website is for your church, you could have a maillist to send out announcements for remote members.

eMail

Wikipedia defines eMail as 'a method of composing, sending, storing, and receiving messages over electronic communication systems. The term e-mail applies both to the Internet e-mail system based on the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and to intranet systems allowing users within one company or organization to send messages to each other.'
